VOLUNTEERS IN THE 44TH GEORGIA INFANTRY – MARCH 1862

Number 31 on the Muster Roll is my great-grandfather, Harrison, Nathaniel C. (1830 – 1864). Nat mustered into the 44 Georgia Infantry 18 March 1862 as a part of Captain David L. Hitchcock’s infantry unit.

Here is an muster roll extract that shows Nat discharged in 1863 after being wounded at the battle of Chancellorsville, approximately one year earlier than his actual death. This document is published on the Internet by a “reliable” source, the USGenweb Project at http://usgwarchives.net/ga/putnam/military.html. I believe the information is incorrect as discussed below.

NOTES IN COOKBOOK BELONGING TO NAT C HARRISON’S WIDOW, EDNA WALLER HARRISON HARPER

My first cousin, Aldine Force Harrison Holland (xxxx – yyyy), had a handwritten cookbook that belonged to our Grandmother Sara Edna Waller Harrison. She provided the following information from that source.
