NANCY AND BILL – RELOCATION TO PARK SPRINGS (11 November 2019)

At first we did not think we could afford to move to an upscale Continuing Care Retirement Community Life Plan Community is the Boomer name for CCRC) like Park Springs. However, after analyzing the monthly expenses to pay the mortgage, taxes, maintenance, food and other living expenses, and agreeing to evenly divide monthly Park Springs fees, we were pleasantly surprised. Very little difference.

I knew and visited several couples at Park Springs over the years. I had toured the facilities and spoken with sales representatives on a number of occasions. Nancy and I attended a prospective member luncheon where we met and dined with an old friend, and fellow University of Chicago alumnus. That was the turning point for us to come to Park Springs. No yard to mow. No gutters to clean. No leaves to rake. No leaks to fix. No dinner to cook. Time to read, time do family history research, meet new and interesting new friends, time to travel, a whole new way of living to explore.

Of course, we could not plan for Covid-19. But nobody did. That was a world-changing plague, and still is!

CAMPUS MAP

We live in Unit # 6404 (i.e., Building 6000, 4th Floor, Villa #4) in the Overlook Area that overlooks Pebblebrook, the Park Springs skilled nursing facility. Note that we live in a Villa, not in an apartment, not in a condo. Sounds more upscale, doesn’t it?
