RED’S REAL ESTATE
Joan and I started investing in residential real estate in 1986. One day in 1987, Brian was in a grumpy mood. He said, “I’m tired of all these rules. I am moving out.” I said, “Okay, but don’t just pay rent to some landlord like me. Think about buying a place to live.”
EAST POINT DUPLEX
Two weeks later, Brian had a contract on 1856 Linwood Avenue, a duplex in East Point, and wanted me to co-sign the loan. I did, and shortly, he owned his first property.

Brian sold his East Point property two years later and bought a duplex on a 1.25-acre lot in Ormewood Park. The house needed lots of maintenance, and the land was covered in kudzu. Brian, his 1960 Cadillac and 1968 Barracuda, moved to 1015 Berne Street in the Ormewood Park neighborhood of East Atlanta. Thus begins Brian’s thirty years on Red’s Farm until his untimely death on 7 October 2022. The property became an official City of Atlanta park in 2024. Here is a May 2025 view of Red’s Farm Preserve.
