1600s TO 1900s – PERRYS IN AMERICA
Our Perry family history in America appears to have begun in Colonial Virginia. Perry’s were among the Scots-Irish and others who entered Virginia or ports farther south such as Charleston, SC. Richard Perry of Lancaster County South Carolina is the forefather of our Perry clan in Sumter, Alachua and Marion Counties in North Central Florida. His offspring migrated from Lancaster to Central Florida in the 1850s. Florida became a state in 1854.

SOME RESOURCE MATERIALS
According to D. Hackett in A Pioneer and A Patriot – The Life & Service of Peter B. Perry 1823 – 1899, “It was Phillip Perry II, Peter Boyer Perry’s 6th Great-Grandfather, who later came to America in the 1600’s”. Peter Boyer Perry’s ancestry is excerpted from Hackett in this link.

Details of many of the Sumter County Perry families are contained in a much-copied document “RICHARD PERRY OF CAMDEN DISTRICT, LANCASTER COUNTY, SOUTH CAROLINA, AND HIS DECENDANTS IN SUMTER COUNTY FLORIDA“.

Another source of detailed Perry family names and dates was compiled by Guy Anderson, 401 Church Street, Mulberry, Florida 33860 (date compiled unknown). It contains names, birth, death and marriage dates of Peter Boyer Perry, his wife Elizabeth Duke, their children and grandchildren.
